Legacies & Lunch: Chris Dorer
Little Italy, a community in central Arkansas, was settled in 1915 by Italian immigrants. Although it was smaller than other Italian colonies in the state, such as Tontitown or Lake Village, Little Italy's centralized location and skilled winemakers contributed to a Prohibition-era oasis where clean alcohol was available during a time that many died due to poisonous alcohol sold by amateur distillers. Chris Dorer, author of Images of America: Little Italy and chair of the history department at Central High School, will speak about his research on this community and his book, published in 2015. Books will be available for sale at the program, and Dorer will sign copies after his talk.
Legacies & Lunch is sponsored in part by the Arkansas Humanities Council. Bring a sack lunch; drinks and dessert are provided.
