The Authors

Shirley Schuette worked as a bookkeeper for 23 years before returning to college full time in 1998. She graduated in 2002 from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock with a degree in German Studies and a minor in history. In 2005, she completed a Master's Degree in Public History. Schuette has worked at the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies since May of 2004 and currently works in the Manuscripts Division.

Nathania Sawyer is associate head of the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies and is senior editor of The Encyclopedia of Arkansas History and Culture. She holds a master's degree in journalism from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
