2017 Genealogy Workshop

The Butler Center for Arkansas Studies, the archival department of the Central Arkansas Library System (CALS), will offer a free, all-day genealogy workshop on Saturday, July 22, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the CALS Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave. The theater doors will open at 9 a.m. Dr. Robin Hanson, a professor of cultural history and professional genealogist, will present four sessions geared to helping genealogists of all levels to sharpen their genealogical skills and to enlarge the scope of their research.

Genealogy Workshop Agenda

10:15 am Cemetery and headstone research. Navigating online cemetery and headstone websites.
11:15 am A must-have resource: Cyndi's List. Revealing the research power of a must-have resource.
12:00 pm Lunch on your own. Theater concessions will be open.
1:00 pm Researching your family with FamilySearch.org. Ever-expanding resource of records and microfilm.
2:00 pm HeritageQuest online. Exploring unique search structures and overlooked primary sources.

Dr. Robin Hanson

Dr. Robin Hanson is a professor of cultural history and also works as a professional genealogist assisting clients ranging from the individual wanting to know more about their family to companies attempting to locate heirs. She has worked as an Ancestry.com expert and is a registered researcher at the National Military Personnel Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Her extensive academic background coupled with over 30 years of genealogical research provides the foundation for her expertise in American cultural history and population migration. In the St. Louis Metro Area, she provides genealogical research instruction to encourage the study of family history and to promote the understanding of genealogy as part of our cultural history.

Parking Information

Limited parking spaces are available for a fee either in the Central Arkansas Library System's open-air parking lot south of the theater building or in the Library's new parking tower located one block west of the theater on the corner of Rock St. and President Clinton Avenue. Metered street parking and free parking lots are available in the surrounding area.
